Why Do I attend this Lecture?
Every Friday I attend a class for two hours from 1100hrs. It is titled majestically as the 'Theory and Practice of Journalism'
Now here is the catch I am doing an MA journalism(International) my classmates are from all over the world but we attend this class with another set of students who are British and are doing their Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism, and this is the only time I actually see these very exotic species, the natives of this foreign land where I have come to pursue higher education, now I wouldn't be working in this land where you meet more foreigners than natives so why is it that I need to attend and learn the Theory and Practice of the way their media works???
An easy answer would be because you have paid through your nose and if these people teach you how to milk a cow as part of you course you bloody well do it.
Another answer is that Theory and Practice is the same where ever you go and so you learn it here but since when has theory ever helped in practice???
Another answer would be this class is the one place where we get to meet our counter parts but hey that isn't possible because like I said I just get to see them not interact with them...
So the vicious circle comes around to where it started and my question still remains unanswered...

yes u paid thru ur nose and probably more than just dat...might as well do it...and one fine day, when u become a guest lecturer in some major univ in the same land, u will remember ur theory class and thank the prof(s) who conducted it coz u have theory to build ur foundation and ur practice to add credibility
preachy? just the other side of d coin...no bother dude, part of life, happens all d time. ask me abt it...i attend 4 hours a week with a man who is supposed to teach me reporting but who has just taught me tolerance and the fact that alcohol is inescapable in journalism.
crap.
thanks for commenting on my blog pRicky...glad u like my poems.thanks
Theory helps if u know where and how to put it into practise..like Ree said u have no idea what classes we attend, wondering at times what the hell am i doing here!
i was gonna post abt my english grammar classes which i think is absolutely unnecessary, i eventually will.
U get to see them and not interact with them is again upto u! go and talk bloody!!

@Reema: the other side of the coin isn't too apparent when see it from the side i sit.
@MT:well well arent you the gas ballon...
@Onyma:See ya wher?
the latin is disarming...
ok...on a book on films...the illusion that is her life...
on gender and identity...the struggle to rise above her identity as just a woman...maybe u have to be one to understand it...its ok...its too personal...and methinks will understand coz it was written in front of her...cheers pRicky
well said ree!
its all a MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO point
;o)
I don't know either why I go to this lecture... So I go every other week: one week I go then I realise how disapointing it is so I don't go the next week. Then I go because I feel guilty, then I don't go because...etc. The people make this course great I think...
You're missing the basic point of being in London by philosophizing too much and not having fine English beer.
@MT, REE: THat comment didnt make sense to me...
@coya: I love the ideas i get through the class, It really is worthwhile...
Brilliant ideas.
@AC: Ya I agree with you but It would have been better if I could share the philosiphy with you over fine english beer... What say???
Now that, my friend, is the most sensible statement I've heard in the past few months. :D
am actually learning more from my international classmates than i would from brit students. so glad i get to put my head together with indians, chinese, people from taiwan, lebanon, south africa... props, maji.
@Denae: cheers
hi Shashank, thanks for the call. yes i have been a tad lazy of late; what with the exams (obviously the students took it), valuation and one whole week break to boot. now i am back and hopefully bore you with my comments, on just about everything. the next blog entry is dedicated to you. good writing, different and thought provoking. i like the way you sign off. i checked the videos and found them interesting. keep penning. naresh rao
Yes you attend because you paid through your nose...atleast I hope you are that conscientious!! But you also attend because you love the story behind things, and theory is story. So who r u kidding DQ...quit the cribbing!! ;-) And theory has always helped in practice no matter how much we'd like to deny it. Its never the same as the actual thing because you can never know unless you are in the situation but it prepares you and that alone is help enough!!!
He he he...k I'll quit sermonising now!!!
